Management Team

Dr. John E. Mayer, President

In case you are wondering about the stuff on my C.V. (professional resume-curriculum vitae), I received my doctorate in clinical psychology from Northwestern University Medical School. In my clinical/consulting work, I have a national reputation for treating teens and families particularly violent or drug abusing teens. I am an author with over 13 books, which includes a novel, over 60 scientific papers and I just had the honor of doing a book for the United Nations last year titled, Creating a Safe and Welcoming School, which will be translated and distributed all over the world to help schools be safe. I have written a newsletter targeted to schools, agencies and parents that addresses the tough issues of helping youth titled, Dr. Mayer’s Memo. It is distributed nationally and is in its 21st year. I have finished my second novel, titled Oblivion, and half-way through writing my third. My latest non-fiction book, Family Fit, is out (Look at our ‘store’ link on this web site). I have been involved with sports my entire life as a participant, coach and clinician. Whew! It is amazing what you can do when you don’t watch television.

I am very enthusiastic about the future of ISPA and look forward to hearing from you and serving your needs. Remember, the office door is always open, just email me at:

Justin Mayer, Executive Director

It is with great honor that I serve as Executive Director of the ISPA. My academic background is in psychology where I have a BA in Psychology from the University of Chicago. My sports background spans over 15 years. From the age of 9 I have competed in quite a few Triathlons and was often the youngest competitor in these races. Over the course of my career, I have completed 4 Ironman Triathlons and 15 Marathons. I have placed in the top three in numerous Triathlons and have won several age group awards. I played varsity baseball in high school as a pitcher. I was recruited to play Division 1 baseball in college, however, my passion for Triathlon won me over and I decided to focus on this and my studies. Sports have always played a major role my life and I feel their effect on me was paramount in my development as a more rounded and confident individual. I strongly believe in the ISPA’s mission to raise the level of care athletes receive. I have seen first hand the impact that individuals who work with athletes can have, and it is vitally important that these individuals adhere to the highest ethics and standards of practice in their given fields.

Andrew Teunis, Director of Business Development

I must say that I am absolutely thrilled to be serving as the Director of Business Development for the ISPA. It is my standing goal to further the accreditation standing of sports professionals internationally by establishing a standard of excellence for the industry as a whole.  As for my academic background, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management from Winona State University. During my tenure at Winona State, I was an original four-year member of the Men’s Lacrosse team, serving as a captain, vice president, and eventually team president. I have been actively involved in playing, coaching and promoting the sport of lacrosse for over 10 years now. I continue my efforts in coaching lacrosse to this day with St. Rita of Cascia High School in Chicago, IL as the Varsity Offensive Coordinator. I also coach a Chicagoland youth-league lacrosse team called the Mustangs Lacrosse Club. Because of my experiences in playing and being around sports for most of my life, I have found that athletics serve as the foundational building blocks for the mental, physical, and social well being of youth and adults alike. As for my professional career, I have previously served as an Account Coordinator for Marketing Support, Inc. in Chicago, IL. This experience helped to develop my strategic, leadership, marketing, and interpersonal skills. I look forward to a long and productive tenure with the International Sports Professionals Association.
